Burning Mandala tells the story of the Blazing Crow, a phoellic sealed within Hikawa Shrine at the peak of Mount Sen. Her guardians are a group of five bandits, known as The Bawang Brothers who are also Fire Spears experts.
This narrative is inspired by a Javanese folklore, Bawang Merah Bawang Putih, Persian character, the Manticore as well as Egyptian's Sphinx. Additionally, viewers can also look for references towards Naoko Takeuchi's classic shoujo manga, Sailor Moon, Yamakawa Junichi's geikomi manga Kuso Miso Technique, Nintendo's Pokemon, SquareEnix's Onion Knigh and Crypton Future Media famous character for Vocaloid, Hatsune Miku.
