Carbuncle offers a clinic-like environment with small objects exhibited as if they were scientific experiments. Inspired by a creature of the same name in Square Enix's Final Fantasy RPG series, Carbuncle deploys a narrative that comments on viral infections, in particular towartds a perceived form of beauty. The title suggests two contrasting meanings, one which refers to a specific type of garnet while another, a form of tissue inflammation, often appearing att the back of the human body. Looking back at 2015s trend, or perhaps obsession towards precious stones in Indonesia, Carbuncle hopes to draw the parellel of such social phenomenon to a potwntially harmful yet luring infection.
