Chapter 2 of The Thousandth-Year Monster tells the journey of the Kappa running away from the Wicked. In his escape, he meets the twin Garlic and Shallot from the Bawang Brotherhood, the thief Urchin from Gordius, the Pilgrim and the White Dragon Prince on a magick voyage. 

Within the social context, this chapter is directed towards the possibility of a higher power and superstitions.

This narrative is an amalgamation of two Javanese folklore, Timun Mas and Bawang Merah Bawang Putih, L. Frank Baum's great classic, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, 16th century Chinese classical novel by Wu Cheng'en, 西遊記 also known as Journey to the West and hints of Square Enix owned, Hironobu Sakaguchi's RPG creation, Final Fantasy and the infamous obliteration of Sodom and Gomorrah.
